How to get a Tattoo from Me

All you need to know

how to get a tattoo

So, you’ve had a look at my work and like the idea of getting a tattoo from me. But how does one do this then?

Well it's actually incredibly simple.

Let’s break down the process into the 4 easy steps you'll need to take. This is how we do it at Holdfast (but is pretty much what you'll encounter in all tattoo studios).

  1. Initiating Contact: The first step is to reach out to me either via email, Instagram or in person.

2. Leaving a deposit: After hashing out the details, it’s time to seal the deal with a $50 deposit. I'm going to try to set up a PayPal section of the site so this can be done online, but for now you'll have to come into the studio.

The cost of the deposit will come off the overall cost of the tattoo.

Basically this not only marks your commitment to the whole idea of getting tattooed, but also acts as a little insurance for me as I get a slice of the deposit if, and sadly this does sometimes happen, you don't let me know that you can't make it to your appointment. We require 48 hours notice to reschedule.

3. The Design Phase: Now comes the fun part—seeing your tattoo design come to life! Very often I'll prefer to show you a sketch on the day, but feel free to request a rough drawing beforehand.

If there is something you would like to change fear not, this isn’t set in stone (or ink) just yet. You’ll have the chance to suggest any changes, within reason of course. We want happy customers, not grumpy ones, so feel free to suggest any adjustments or additions you would like. This is your tattoo not mine after al.

4. The Big Day: It’s finally here—the day you’ve been waiting for.

The main things to consider before getting tattooed are:

  • Getting a good nights sleep

  • Having a decent breakfast

  • Generally just turning up well rested and not hung over or anything.

I'm happy for you to bring in a friend with you. But bear in mind that they will most likely not be able to sit with you when you're getting tattooed. Personally I prefer people to just bring themselves, but ask if bringing a support along is ok. Do not under any circumstances bring a huge entourage of people. It's distracting and can be a bit much.

And there you have it! Simples.

Getting a tattoo can be a stressful event. Especially for the first time. But remember that we were all in your situation, and at Holdfast we are here to help you and make it as comfortable and memorable as it can be.

I always tell my first time clients that if it was that awful nobody would get tattooed. But while it can certainly be a trial it is definitely worth the effort.
